Women Rule!

Women are king, so to speak, at least as far as Tom Peters is concerned when it comes to decision making and buying power. And Tom had some compelling statistics to back up the assertion as he spoke to a couple thousand bankers, credit union leaders and others (including me) at the BAI Conference in Vegas last week.
Stalking the aisles and sliding into occasional rants on the lack of vison in business, he unloaded with dozens of slides and stats. To wit: women are the primary decision makers in terms of purchases for 94% of home furnishings, 67% of investment decisons, 89% of bank accounts, 91% of houses, and on and on.
And yet, are businesses set up to accomodate and even cater to women as customers? Not usually, especially in the financial service industry.

I’m heading out tomorrow for a large banking industry conference in Las Vegas. The customer experience opportunities abound! Of course, I’m limited to the more pedestrian of those offerings (overpriced dinner…a couple of slot machines…maybe even Wayne Newton!). Still, I’ll be sure to report back on the good and bad, the creative and the thoughtless, the caring and the malicious. Stay tuned.
The Most Persuasive Advertising for Banks? Word of Mouth

When searching for a new bank, where do people turn - the Internet, advertising, consumer reports? Nope: typically, the primary influencer is a family member or friend. That’s the gist of a CRM Daily article sent to me by friends Jackie Huba and Ben McConnell, experts on creating Customer Evangelists.
It’s a simple but profound point that can make you think. If, after all, the primary method for luring new customers to your bank is to create "evangelists" or influencers among your current customers, then where does is make the most sense to devote your resources? I’m thinking it’s not solely your marketing and advertising.
